Government Moves One Step Back With Lifting Of “Severe” Emergency Decree

In what is deemed as a step towards reconciliation, PM Prayuth lifted the “Severe” emergency decree put into place last week to control the anti-government protests, banning the public gathering of more than four people.

Student movements have responded by toning down on their protests but have at the same time given an ultimatum for PM Prayuth to resign within 3 days or else the student protestors will intensify their protests and increase the number of their demands. Continue Reading Below..

The prime minister is unlikely to step down, urging protestors to allow the parliament to be the platform through which the current political crises can be resolved.

In the meantime, an “extraordinary” session of parliament is set to start on the 26th and 27th of October.

It’s unclear whether the Covid emergency decree put in place to control transmission of the virus is still in place. It was extended at the end of September to cover the month of October.
